Bienvenido a Oaxaca City (pronounced Waa-HAA-Kuh), Mexico. Just in time to learn about and celebrate the Dia de los Muertos. Bring your sombrero and be prepared to explore an ancient tradition.
Basilica de Soledad is a baroque cathedral situated in a sun-kissed plaza. Local builders adapted this European-style architecture to its new environment, intentionally building without tall spires to make the cathedral more resistant to earthquakes.
Legend has it that the cathedral was established on this site after a local farmer noticed an additional mule trailing him. Upon investigating, he uncovered an image of the Virgin of Solitude within a pack on the mule's back.
Let the journey begin! And the medal is soo stunning on this one. (Look at that low number. I happened to wake up at 3:00 am and nabbed it.)
