Water Curtain Caves China, Silk Road

Following the winding valleys of Luban Gorge, the visitor discovers a cave complex containing some of the most beautiful and ancient Buddhist treasures in all of China.

After passing along Xiansheng Pond Cave, its walls decorated with faded Buddhist murals from the 5th century, one can head to Lashao Temple, with its impressive 40 ft (12m) sculpture of the Buddha, and then into the Thousand Buddha Cave, so named for the huge uber of ancient statuettes, which still retain their bright colours due to the perfect climatic conditions.
