Perched up on a hilltop are the ruins of the 12th century Shobak Castle.
Built by the Crusaders as their headquarters to protect the fledgling Kingdom of Jerusalem, the castle was strategically located on a caravan route giving them control over commercial trades.
Inside the castle is a well shaft accessed via 350 steps down to the water spring.
This gave them an enormous advantage when they were besieged by Saladin, a Muslim ruler.
