Fort Scratchely was built in the late 19th Century to protect against a possible Russian invasion on the east coast of Australia.
The fear was that the Russians, still smarting from the Crimean War, would occupy Japan and use it as a base to invade British Australia.
The invasion never came, and Fort Scratchley remains a well-preserved monument to this day, a popular spot for families to come and explore Australia's history and enjoy the beautiful coastal views from the fort's battlements.
