Jenolan Caves, NSW Australia

Located in the Blue Mountains, this magical realm of dripping stalactites and crystal-clear pools is a popular spot for adventurous souls.

The caves are hollowed out of ancient limestone and contain marine fossils from the Silurian epoch, with spiraling ammonites and curling devil’s toenails faintly embossed on the walls.

More modern animals make the caves home too, with colonies of bats hanging from the ceiling and spindly cave spiders clinging to the rock.  Watch where you put your hands!
