Museum Island, Berlin

The huge neoclassical buildings on Berlin's Museum Island contain some of the most incredible collections of antiquities and art in the world.

These include the stunning Pergamon Museum, with its elegant Hellenistic Pergamon altar and the deep-blue Ishtar Gate of ancient Babylon, the Neues Museum's vast collection of Egyptian artefacts, the National Art Gallery, particularly famous for the German Romantic and French Impressionist paintings inside.
