In
its day, Babylon was the navel of the world.
No city was more sophisticated, learned, and populous. It was the capital of an empire and home to
kings, heroes, priestesses, and poets.
Even
its conquerors, such as Cyrus and Alexander (both ‘the Great’), were humbled by
its magnificent walls and palaces, especially the famous Ishtar Gate. Today, little of the original architecture
remains, but millions have been poured into the city’s reconstruction and
Babylon still enchants.
